KEY DATE:
1. On Friday, December 7, your stock selection research paper is due.
UPCOMING SPEAKERS:
1. On Wednesday, Oct. 24 and Nov. 7, Victoria’s day, John Rogers, will come in and talk about how he started Ariel Capital Management, the investment philosophy behind the firm with specific example of how it works, and how one evaluates management of a firm that they are thinking of investing in–with video demonstration of the method they use.
2. On either Friday the 9th or 16th of November, Allen Sanderson, who teaches the introductory econ. course at the University, will speak to us about sports economics–perhaps the use of steroids in sports.
CLASS ONE: we will discuss the first half of chapter 6 in Colander. HOMEWORK: read the Peter Lynch interview and “Is this a Good Market ? Please Don’t Ask.
CLASS TWO: we will discuss the readings. HOMEWORK: read the handout on the “Growth Factory” and the little article, “Sound Investing and Peaceful Sleep.”
CLASS THREE: we will discuss the readings. HOMEWORK: read the handout, “Reading the Numbers–How to Decipher a Balance Sheet.”
