Important News From This Past February
Each year, the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation holds a jazz improvisation competition. Participants are then narrowed down to twelve finalists, and these finalists performed at Buddy Guy’s Legends Nightclub, on February 20.
This year, U-High junior Monique Johnson was one of twelve finalists
chosen out of fifty-five students who auditioned. Students had to improvise
on a twelve-bar blues piece, and jazz standard, of their choice. Monique chose Blue Monk and Pfrancing. Monique placed 4th in the High School Division. As a result, she
has been invited to be a member of the C&A Ensemble. This quartet
performs together for one year at public and private events throughout the
Chicago area.

Recital Night
On Tuesday, March 4, Lab School student musicians performed at Fulton Recital Hall as part of the Lab School’s Recital Night. This event is for our more advanced students, to perform solo and chamber music from the classical repertoire. The evening was a fantastic success, and those in the audience were able to hear a variety of music from musicians in grades seven through twelve.

Eighth Grade Spring Concert Date Change!
“To accommodate visiting author Daniel Pink, we have changed the date of the eighth grade spring concert. Originally scheduled for Thursday, April 24, the performance has been moved to Tuesday, April 29. We apologize for any inconvenience, but wanted to avoid conflict between the two activities. The concert is still at Mandel Hall, beginning at 7:30 p.m.”
