Important News From This Past February
Each year, the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation holds a jazz improvisation competition. Participants are then narrowed down to twelve finalists, and these finalists performed at Buddy Guy’s Legends Nightclub, on February 20.
This year, U-High junior Monique Johnson was one of twelve finalists
chosen out of fifty-five students who auditioned. Students had to improvise
on a twelve-bar blues piece, and jazz standard, of their choice. Monique chose Blue Monk and Pfrancing. Monique placed 4th in the High School Division. As a result, she
has been invited to be a member of the C&A Ensemble. This quartet
performs together for one year at public and private events throughout the
Chicago area.
