Hyde Park Jazz Festival 08
The second annual Hyde Park Jazz Festival takes place this Saturday, September 27, in various locations throughout Hyde Park. Beginning at noon at the Dusable Museum with the Jazz Institute Ensemble, and ending with a midnight jam session at International House, it promises to be a day filled with great music.
Be sure to catch the U-High Jazz Ensemble performing at 6:00 at the Oriental Institute. For additional information on the festival please visit their website:

Recital Night
On Tuesday, October 16, the music department of the Laboratory Schools will be hosting a Recital Night, at Fulton Recital Hall. Information and auditions forms are available from Mr. Brickner and Ms. Sinclair, or may be downloaded from the links below. It’s always an exciting evening, filled with great music, and we hope that many of our talented young musicians are interested in performing.

Friday, May 2nd is Grandparents’ and Friends’ Day!
At our upcoming Grandparents’/Friends’ Day welcoming ceremony, our 3rd graders will perform “Niska Banja” with students playing Orff instruments and a piano accompaniment by Ms. Sinclair. Ms. Schlieker will be the conductor.

Seventh Grade Spring Concert on April 15
Seventh grade band, choir, and orchestra students will perform on Tuesday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m., in Mandel Hall. Please click on the following link if you need a map:

Students should arrive by 7:00 in their concert attire (white top, black dress pants or skirt, black shoes).
We have reminded students that participation in concerts is a course requirement. Parents, please give them your support by seeing that they arrive on time, with instrument, and music. As a reminder, none of the Lab School music rooms will be open prior to the performance.
Our seventh graders have been rehearsing diligently in preparation for this performance. We invite family and friends to share in their music making. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact any of the seventh grade music teachers.

Recital Night
On Tuesday, March 4, Lab School student musicians performed at Fulton Recital Hall as part of the Lab School’s Recital Night. This event is for our more advanced students, to perform solo and chamber music from the classical repertoire. The evening was a fantastic success, and those in the audience were able to hear a variety of music from musicians in grades seven through twelve.
