Here is a brief audio clip of the saxophones playing their first note, a C#. I’ll post audio clips throughout the year, so we can all mark the progress of these groups. Audio clips work best with the Safari web browser. 5th-grade-band-first-note1

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Spring Break. As we all get back into our school routines, a reminder that the fifth grade band spring concert is on Thursday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m., in Judd 126. Please note that the start time is one half-hour earlier than our concert this past January.

Home practice is essential for success on any instrument. I urge everyone to be practicing for twenty to thirty minutes per day, on the days on which band class does not meet. A good place to pick up again is our Accent on Achievement book, pages 14, 15, 16, and 17.

If you need reeds, cork grease, sticks, or other supplies, the best and easiest way to get these is through the school’s music vendor, Quinlan & Fabish. Here’s a link to their website: http://www.qandf.com/.

Please check this blog frequently for updates on concert information, practice tips, music assignments, etc. If students or parents have questions, please don’t hesitate to phone or e-mail me.
