May 14, 15, & 16 is Rites of May – DON’T MISS one of Lab’s oldest traditions! T-shirts are now on sale before or after school in the Blaine lobby. Join the festivities in the Blaine Courtyard on Thursday, May 14, and Friday, May 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. There will be food, games, entertainment, and U-High’s performance of Alice in Wonderland at 8:00 PM each night. Saturday, May 16, is the all-day International Festival from 11:00 to 5:00 featuring:
- International Booths – Learn about the cultures of Africa, China, Germany, Israel, Japan, Korea, and Scotland/Ireland through arts, crafts, music and more. Get your face painted by Ms. Mazurek and Ms. Alicea or get your hair braided by one of our master braiders.
- Entertainment – Don’t miss performances by U-High’s Seeking Common Ground Hip Hop band, the U-High Irish Dancers, and Lab After School’s Taekwondo, Capoeira and Indian dance classes; Magic by The Amazing Gary; the Nankouma Drum Core and more.
- Our Global Café featuring International Fare from local restaurants and our own Lab chefs.
- Scholastic Book Fair all three days in the Belfield Gym. Stock-up on summer reading! See if your teacher made a “wish list.”
- Carnival – Games, moonwalk, a giant inflatable slide, basketball hoop and soccer shoot-out, cotton-candy, popcorn, a prize tent, and more round out the festivities.
Volunteers are still needed for two-hour shifts starting at 10:00 AM on Saturday; contact Peri Altan at peri.altan@navteq.com. Parking spaces will be reserved on 59th and Kimbark for Rites of May – look for the Rites of May signs. Hope to see you there!
