Trekking out to Lemont for their super sectional match, the Maroons met the highly talented, highly physical Downers Grove South Mustangs.
The Maroons went down early off of a header goal in the middle of box. Battling throughout the rest of the first half, U-High faced constant pressure, but conceded no more goals. The Mustangs controlled the beginning of the second half, putting in goal off of a breakaway right away. This was followed closely by a finished penalty kick. Minutes later, the Mustangs finished for a fourth time in a long well-placed attempt.
With a significant amount of time remaining in the second half and a 4-0 disadvantage, things were beginning to look bleak for the Maroons. Despite this, the effort never wavered and the Maroons kept at DGS with lots of heart and tenacity. This paid off when Rachel Bishop scored her first goal of the season with 10.8 seconds left on the clock, bringing the final score to 4-1.
U-High ended the year as ISL Champions, Regional Champions, and Sectional Champions with 19 wins and 5 losses.
The Maroons would like to extend their gratitude to all the family and friends who came to support the program today and throughout the season, to the coaches who worked tirelessly daily for the team’s improvement and to the administrators who allow us these opportunities.
On behalf of all the seniors, I’d like to articulate what a joy U-High soccer has been for the past four years. Watching the team grow and growing with it, reflecting on where we were and how far we’ve come and seeing the camaraderie among my teammates has made me realize how lucky I am to have been a part of it . Best of luck next year, Maroons! ![]()
