JV Girls Soccer: 2-0 Victory as Road Warriors over Illiana Christian

Playing their second home game (via the road), the Maroons traveled to South Holland to take on the Illiana Christian Vikings.

The lady Maroons dominated the first half with strong defense, a desire to run through the ball and a concentrated effort to win 50-50 balls. In the 17th minute, Catherine Yunis benefited from a ball that Crystal Maciel had won in the air and played forward. Catherine took the breakaway past the defenders, and one versus the keeper, she connected low and to the right.

In the 24th minute, U-High struck again. Katherine Garvey played a ball from the wing toward Lexie Barber, who was standing just inside the 18′. Lexie’s strike easily found the back of the net, to give the Maroons a strong halftime lead.

The Vikings came out strong the second half, keeping the play mostly in their attacking third. But keeper Emily Roberts, earned her first shutout of the season making impressive saves with the help of Emmy Ehrmann and Connie He who provided solid defensive leadership.

The Maroons (1-0-1) will look to continue the win streak with their next game, Saturday, April 25th 11:00am at Oak Park/River Forrest.
