Juniors, Bill Steuben and Evan Levin, continued their winning ways at first doubles with a straight set victory over Parker’s Rachlin and O’Dea, 6-4, 6-4. Bill and Evan were runners-up in their last two tournaments and have formed a winning partnership. Bill’s steady play from the baseline and Evan’s aggressive poaching at the net and strong lefty serve have made them U-High’s most reliable match winners so far this season.
Tyler Anderson played a tough three-setter against Andrei Molchanov. After dropping the first set 3-6, Tyler came back strong to take the second and build a 3-0 lead in the third. He had chances to go up 4-0 but Molchanov rallied, held serve, and fought back to break Tyler’s serve. Serving at 4-5, Tyler made a couple of loose errors and dropped his serve and the set, losing 3-6, 6-3, 4-6.
Madhav Suresh and Nathaniel Levmore played a solid match at second doubles but lost in two very close sets, 6-7, 5-7. Seniors, Mark Wittels and Alex Hsu, lost at third doubles in straight sets, 3-6, 4-6 to Parker’s Gibbons and Coetze. Mark and Alex made a good run in the second set after being down 2-5 but could quite come all the way back. Sophomore Aneesh Gupta lost in straight sets at second singles, 0-6, 1-6.
