Middle School Girls Soccer Season Off and Running

After weeks of rain delays, muddy practices, and eager anticipation, the middle school girls soccer teams finally got a chance to play their first game of the season this past Friday.  The team traveled north to the new turf fields by Lincoln Park to battle their rivals Latin in a spirited pair of games.  The seventh grade team played first and kept up excellent offensive pressure throughout the first twenty minutes before giving up a goal on an indirect kick inside the box just before half.  The team stormed back in the second half, though, with Liv Rhodes scoring the team’s first goal of the season and Lillian Eckstein adding two more (one after a beautiful assist from Eleanor Schuttenberg) to seal the 3-1 victory.  The eighth graders followed suit with a 3-1 win of their own, with goals from Beverly Lau, Laura Anderson, and a miraculous corner kick goal from Liana Manuel to gain the Maroons a sweep of their first games of the season.  The teams will be away again next week with matches on Tuesday against Morgan Park Academy and Wednesday against Hardy Prep.  Friday the teams will have an intra-squad scrimmage on the Midway.  Thanks to all the parents and fans who came out to cheer the girls on to victory!
