Playing the first of seven consequtive home matches, the U-High Maroons took on Independant School League rival Northridge Preperatory School Knights Tuesday on the Midway.
The Maroons came out strong with Tim Thomas netting goals in the 2nd and 5th minutes, the second goal assisted by Amir Hay. A third goal was added in the 28th minute when Martin Garrett-Currie set Adam Picker up for an attack on the right side.
The second half the Maroons proved they could be a force in the middle of the field, winning nine of ten 50/50 balls in one crucial stretch. This included extremely strong play from defender Dominick Wordlaw. Unfortunately, a hand ball in the box led to a penalty kick that the Knights converted in the 47th minute.
The Maroons wanted to make a statement, and Adam Picker’s second goal, assisted by Amol Gundeti kept the margin of victory at 3.
The Maroons (2-0-0, 1-0-0) look to continue the trend Friday, September 11th with a match versus Oak Park River Forest on the Midway (4:30) and another match Saturday, September 12th against Thornton on Jackman Field (10:00am).
