7th Grade Boys Soccer Defeats Parker

The seventh grade boys soccer team defeated their rival Francis Parker 7-1 at home on Monday afternoon.  The seventh grade showed admirable focus, heading out to the Midway hard on the heels of a field trip to the Indiana Dunes.  Blue skies and turning leaves added to the biggest crowd of the year to make for a perfect afternoon for soccer.  The Maroons jumped out to an early lead by capitalizing on rebounds and maintaining pressure inside Parker’s penalty area.  Sean Selig scored a putback a few minutes into the game, and Taylor Reifert quickly made the score 2-0 by finishing a nice pass from Max Smith.  Sean Selig then scored his second goal, and Michael Glick added to the scoring onslaught, but Parker stormed back with a handful of attacks before finally getting on the board with a hard shot past goalkeeper Henry Utset to go up 4-1.  Parker kept up the pressure and would have scored again if not for a stellar save by Utset.  In the second half  the ever-dependable Philip Gianfortune scored early in the half, with Sean Selig scoring immediately after to capture a hat trick.  Henry Utset finished the scoring for the day with a beautiful left-footed shot from almost at the eighteen yard line.  Defenders Miles Grogger, David “Brownie” Browne, Clay Surmeier, and David Yunis showed excellent resolve in the second half.  The Maroons’ next game will be away against Latin, with the location to be announced shortly.  Thanks to all the friends and family who came out to see the Maroons capture a convincing win on a wonderful autumn afternoon!
