JV Golf loses to Latin, SEPT 23 at Lost Marsh

In the ISL’s, Latin fields an exceptionally strong golf program; Varsity dominates the league, and their JV reflects both skilled players and a deep bench. Recently at Lost Marsh U-High finished with 159; Latin score is unavailable. Eight of our nine players posted sub-50 scores for the first time.  Maddie had  a personal best of 37, and had she not been golfing exhibition, our team would have posted a new course record. Akila contributed to the team score for the first time, making 7 of our 9 golfer to have done so,   a very encouraging situation.

Maroons end four year drought, convincingly beat Lake Forest Academy 3-1

On LFA’s perfectly trimmed field, U-High played one of their most impressive games. After going down 1-0 in the games opening minutes, the Maroons quickly changed the games current in their favor. Strong defense translated into efficient offense as U-High established a few great scoring opportunities the first half. Forward Rafi Kahn capitalized on a fast break opportunity, speeding past the slower LFA defense on way to equalizing the score. During the second half, U-High kept their skillful play going and forced LFA to rise to the occasion. Maintaining a strong presence in the opponents 18 yard box, U-High easily came across scoring chances during the second half. Forward Patrick Philizaire confidently challenged the keeper in the air and headed a spectacular ball in the back of the next, providing the game’s deciding goal. Minutes from the games conclusion, U-High netted a final goal. Leaving no doubt to who was the better team that day.

U-High travel to rival Morgan Park, leave with an important 1-0 victory

Anticipated as one of the toughest games on the Maroons schedule, the Morgan Park Academy match lived up to the hype. From the first whistle, both teams played with high intensity. U-High maintained control of midfield, while Morgan Park relied on counter attacks to propel their offense. The Maroon backline held steady and barely allowed Morgan Park’s speedy forwards any breathing room. Division 1 recruit and sweeper, Milan Tica, proved a tough obstacle for the Maroon offense to get past. About half way through the first half, however, U-High got the opportunity it needed. Following a foul at the edge of MPA’s 18, Junior Zack Reneau-Wedeen fired a perfect free-kick into the back of the net. The remainder of the game contained flashes of brilliance from both sides but U-High maintained control with goalie Richard Tomlinson raising to occasion whenever called upon. After the ref blew the final whistle, U-High sealed the win and remained perfect in the ISL. Two more wins and the Maroons are Conference champs.

Maroons struggle, still prevail against North Shore 3-0

Constantly fighting for possession, U-High struggled the entire match to find a rhythm. North Shore controlled possession and pressured the Maroons to make hurried passes. The other side’s inability to finish around the box, helped U-High keep the game within their grasp. When presented with scoring opportunities, however, the boys didn’t disappoint. One of the games only highlights came when Defender Jamie Veeneman advanced into the attacking third and exploited a hole in the North Shore defense. Sneaking behind the backline, Captain Nate Wise recieved Jamie’s pass and cooly slotted the ball into the back of the net. The game wasn’t pretty but U-High came away with a victory and improved their ISL record to 3-0
