I find this an interesting and logical approach to learning a new language: careful deconstruction. He takes 8 phrases, runs them through an online translator, and looks to see what kind of grammatical difficulties arise. It’s not a bad idea. For students and parents out there who are willing to try something new, put these phrases through Google Translate and see what you can decode about that language’s rules.

The apple is red.
It is John’s apple.
I give John the apple.
We give him the apple.
He gives it to John.
She gives it to him.
I must give it to him.
I want to give it to her.
