05.13.08 Fac Dev: Summer Curriculum Development

Today, in our Faculty Development Meeting, we announced that the department was funded for only half of the proposed 10 days for Summer Training. The department agreed to work 5 full days during the third week of August and narrow the scope of topics to:
Monday 8/18: Creative applications of DiLL
Tuesday 8/19: Podcasts
Wednesday 8/20: iMovie
Thursday 8/21: Web presence
Friday 8/22 will be a workday to finish projects started during the week.

Our part of the deal:
1. Show up by 9AM and work until 5PM, Monday through Friday
2. Participate in the training activity for the day’s topic
3. Design four tangible projects and turn them in by week’s end
Proposed itinerary for Monday - Thursday:
8:50 - 9:00 Sign in on clipboard
9:00 - 9:30 Directed training/lecture/question & answer on topic for the day
9:30 - 9:45 Discuss possible application in the classroom as a large group
9:45 - 10:00 Discuss with project buddy or buddies what you will accomplish that day
10:00 - 10:15 Snack Break
10:15 - 12:00 Everyone creates a model tech project to show students
12:00 - 1:00 Lunch
1:00 - 1:45 Directed training/lecture/question & answer on secondary related topics
1:45 - 2:45 Buddies write up lesson plan, instructions for students, and prepare all needed materials, burn to a single CD and/or store on the File Server
2:45 - 3:00 Snack Break
3:00 - 3:30 Share with large group what each small group accomplished
3:30 - 5:00 Project wrap-up, personal housekeeping, help clean up lab, prepare materials needed for next day
5:00 Sign out on clipboard
Friday

9:00 Share with large group your personal goals for the day
9:30 Get to work on projects
10:00 Snack Break
12:00 Lunch
3:00 Snack Break
4:00 Make sure there is a copy of everything you did on a CD, so you can access it during the school year. Also, save to the Projects Folder.
