First things first… CHOCOLATE!! Jeopardy - Bingo - Connect 4 combined!!! I give the answer. You give the question “What is…” Practice recording your response using the spacebar in the DiLL client.

1. Spotlight. Practice searching “mail”; “.doc”; “.pdf”. Arrow down. Show all.

2. ⌘K allows you to connect to other servers (computers) running on our network. There are 3 principal servers: PUBLIC, PERSONAL, PROJECTS. Use Personal to leave class notes/prep for lab; Use Public to update web site; Use Projects for collaborative things. ⌘K can only be used from the Finder. Same username and password as email. Task: mount the public, personal, and project volumes on your desktop.

3. Photo Booth. Open using Spotlight. Click on red button. Smile! Effects buttons. Edit>Delete all photos. Use to take pictures of expressions, puppets, narration. File>Reveal in Finder. Save to Projects/World Language/Faculty Development/10.09.07/Images

4. Comic Life. For today’s activity, choose between four formats with only two sections:

  • ⌘Tab to Finder
  • Browse to Projects/World Language/Faculty Development/10.09.07/Images
  • Click and drag images into Comic Life OR change drop-down menu in Comic Life.
  • You can take pictures in Comic Life as well. “Freeze an expression”
  • Add Speech Bubbles and text about you or the classes you teach, in the language(s) you teach
  • Export as .JPG into Projects/World Language/Faculty Development/10.09.07/Faculty Pages
  • Allison will post on /WLL blog (see http://blogs.ucls.uchicago.edu/wll/teachers/aweiss/ for an example)
  • Discussion on how to apply this in classroom; Allison can plant images on the desktop that you want them to use for that class period. You can also assign older students to gather their own images and have them ready to go in their personal file before coming to class.
