OpenLearn (UK), OER, OCW

Over the last couple of years K-12 and Higher Ed institutions have been working together to create a pool of open courses available to anyone in the world. The learning “plans” are there, but it’s not always easy to gain access to the textbooks referred to in the syllabi. Still, teachers can use these lesson plans for added inspiration or as “Additional materials” that they point their students to. I found some excellent lists of topics for class discussion, for example.

BrainPOP Español: A Resource for All Levels of Spanish Instruction

BrainPOP - Un Sitio Educativo Animado para aprender de Salud, Ciencias, Tecnología, Ciencias Sociales, Matemáticas, Arte, Música y Español.

This site offers short Flash videos about numerous topics that could be the theme of a Spanish class or project. Just like Yabla, the company offers some free videos and requires a subscription of around $1200 for school-wide use. The Spanish narrations are spoken quickly but clearly and could be listened to in English as well, if there were comprehension problems. A great place for acquiring new vocabulary and creating fodder for group conversation.
